New Books
Our "New Books" shelf features our latest additions to Miller Library. Among the recent titles is Truck; On Rebuilding a Worn-Out Pickup and Other Post-Technological Adventures. Called the Zen of the art of truck repair, John Jerome's book tells of his yearlong adventure restoring a 1950 Dodge pickup and coming to grips with technology.
Barack Obama's Dreams from My Father is the memoir of this up-and coming politician's early years. Obama retraces his parents' roots, from his white mother's childhood in Kansas to his father's native Kenya, on his path to self discovery.
Happiness: the Science Behind Your Smile by Daniel Nettle presents recent research in a readable format, examining the concept of happiness and why we are wired to pursuit it.
A hot concept today is Social Capital, and David Halpern's book of that title explores the phenomena of social networking, our connections with others that affect how, when, and with whom we associate. He discusses how social capital affects economic growth, health, crime, government, and other aspects of society.
